Regions in Essequibo

  • 1

    Barima-Waini

Region 1 is Guyana's north-western region, bordering Venezuela. Its capital is Mabaruma, and communities such as Port Kaituma, Moruca and Morawhanna are linked to the rest of the country mainly by river and air, which makes sending documents by email especially useful.

  • 2

    Pomeroon-Supenaam

Region 2 covers the Essequibo Coast and the Pomeroon River. Anna Regina is the regional capital, with Charity and Suddie as other important communities. The region is known for rice farming and coconut production.

  • 3

    Essequibo Islands-West Demerara

Region 3 includes Wakenaam, Leguan and Hog Island in the Essequibo River and the West Demerara and West Coast Demerara communities. Vreed en Hoop is the regional capital and Parika is a major transport hub.

  • 7

    Cuyuni-Mazaruni

Region 7 is a mining and forestry region in the west, bordering Venezuela. Its capital is Bartica, the gateway to the interior. Mining companies and workers here often need Spanish and Portuguese translation and interpreting.

  • 8

    Potaro-Siparuni

Region 8 is in the central interior and includes Kaieteur National Park. Mahdia is the regional capital and a centre for gold mining. Most clients here send documents to us by email.

  • 9

    Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo

Region 9 covers the Rupununi savannahs in the south-west and borders Brazil. Lethem is the regional capital, directly across the Takutu River from Bonfim in Brazil, so Portuguese translation and interpreting are in daily demand.
